In October, we hosted this year's CT Grown for CT Kids event in partnership with Chartwells. Our celebration spotlighted local agriculture and healthy eating. The event featured farm-fresh tastings, an interactive farmers market, and fun educational activities for students!

Students enjoyed a Discovery Kitchen pop-up tasting of ratatouille, made with locally sourced vegetables, and a delicious apple crisp prepared in-house and served as part of the lunch menu.

The highlight? A surprise farmers market where every student received $4 in Farm Bucks to spend on fresh Connecticut produce like apples, sweet corn, honeynut, acorn, and delicata squash, eggplant, zucchini and summer squash.

See what our kids picked up from the market!

A big thank you to Sardilli Produce of Hartford, Chartwells’ produce vendor, for sharing insights about farming and local food systems.

Families also received take-home materials with nutrition tips, cooking ideas, and the featured ratatouille recipe.

This was a wonderful celebration of local food, student engagement, and community partnerships, bringing the farm to the cafeteria in a meaningful and delicious way!
